How it works

Three things happen.
You don't notice any of them.

01

Screenshot lands

The moment a new .png appears in your screenshot folder, YouTility detects it via FSEvents — Apple's native file-system notification system. No polling. No delay.

02

Foundation Models reads it

Apple's on-device AI analyses the image content — the UI, text, and context — and generates a descriptive, slug-formatted filename. Entirely on your Mac. No network call.

03

File renamed. Undo ready.

The file is renamed in place. The menu bar popover logs every rename with a one-click undo — for the rare moment Foundation Models misses the mark.

Fully on-device

Your screenshots never leave your Mac.

Most AI tools send your files to a server. YouTility uses Apple's Foundation Models — which run entirely on Apple Silicon. No API call is ever made. No image is uploaded.

  • Foundation Models runs locally — no internet required
  • No account, no telemetry, no analytics of any kind
  • No per-rename cost — you pay once, AI runs forever
  • Works on a plane. Works airgapped. Works always.

Zero data leaves your machine.
Zero API cost. Zero compromise.

Questions

Answers to the ones we've heard.

Does this require macOS 26?
Yes. YouTility is built on Apple's Foundation Models framework, which ships with macOS 26. If you're on an older version it won't run — but the free trial makes it risk-free to check out when you upgrade.
Is my data actually private?
Completely. Foundation Models runs fully on Apple Silicon — no image leaves your Mac, no network request is made during renaming, and YouTility collects no telemetry or analytics whatsoever.
What if it names a file badly?
Every rename appears in the menu bar popover with a one-click undo. Foundation Models is good, but not infallible — the undo is there precisely for when it isn't.
Which folder does it watch?
Your system screenshot folder by default. You grant access once via macOS's standard folder picker — it only ever touches that folder, and you can revoke access any time in System Settings.
Does it work offline?
Yes — Foundation Models doesn't use the internet. If you're on a plane with no Wi-Fi, your screenshots still get renamed instantly.
What's the waitlist early-access price?
Waitlist members get access at $8 before the public launch at $12. Join the waitlist above — the price goes up when macOS 26 ships publicly.
